DeEp CuT

It has been more than 2 years, since the dramatic events of 22th July in Norway on the island of Utøya and in Oslo city centre. I remember very clearly how terrified I was for my family and friends in Oslo. I was abroad at the time and all I could do was worry and call.

This island looks like a heart to me

My thought went and still go to the families of the lives that were lost and affected.

After a closed competition, won by Swedish artist Jonas DahlbergNorway will cut through an island in tribute to massacre victims.

The artist is proposing a Memorial at Sørbråten and in Oslo, Norway.

This concept is both figurative and literal, as a deep cut (3.5 meters) will be made onto a piece of land.

A new disconnected island will appear , representing the brutal loss of lives.

This "wound" itself will be engraved with the names of the victims.

Soil, plants and trees from the cut will be brought to Oslo for the foundation of a open walkway memorial.

I believe this project is a great way of commemorating the events that shook and transformed Norway.
